-Senjogahara Marshland
The Senjogahara Plateau Nature Trail follows Yukawa River during most of its course between Yumoto Onsen and Ryuzu Waterfall near the shores of Lake Chuzenji. The hiking trail offers excellent views of the marshland and surrounding mountains, and it takes around 2.5 to 3 hours to complete. Not far from Senjogahara lies Odashirogahara, a smaller but equally idyllic marshland, which is worth a detour or separate visit.
-Shirane Onsen-Spa
The Shirane Onsen-spa is located at the foot of Mt. Nikko-shirane and the riverside of Otaki-river, the headwaters of Katashina river. You can enjoy the abundant quantity of hot spring water directly gushing from the ground (600 liters/minute).
◆戦場ヶ原
栃木県日光市の日光国立公園内にある高層湿原である。標高は約1,390mから1,400mであり、広さは400haに及ぶ。
戦場ヶ原という地名は、中禅寺湖を巡って山の神がこの湿原を舞台に争いを繰り広げたという伝説に由来している。
戦場ヶ原のうち174.68ヘクタールの地域が、奥日光の湿原としてラムサール条約登録湿地となっている。
◆金精峠（こんせいとうげ）
栃木県日光市と群馬県利根郡片品村との境にある標高2024mの峠。
多くはその付近を指すが、山道の峠を金精峠と呼ぶ。周りを白根山、男体山などの高山で囲まれる高所のため、峠の標高は2000m超と高い。峠下には国道120号の金精トンネル(全長755m)が、標高1840mの高度を貫いている。
◆白根温泉
沼田から金精峠を経て日光へと向かう街道沿いにある白根温泉は、古くから湯治場として利用されてきた温泉。大滝川の清流にかかる橋を渡っていく一軒宿の「加羅倉館」は、昭和5年(1930)創業で、客室数はわずか7室。国道を挟んだ対岸にある別棟の半地下の男女別大浴場には、タイル貼りで縁が鉄平石の湯船に無色透明の温泉がたたえられている。近くのドライブインに日帰り入浴施設の「白根温泉大露天風呂薬師之湯」もある。夏には日本百名山・日光白根山の登山客、冬はスキー客で賑わう温泉地。
