Ex-Lehman banker made Nomura number three

うーん。思い切った!

実際のところどうなんでしょ?

Nomura is promoting Jesse Bhattal, the former Asia head of Lehman Brothers, to deputy president and appointing its first female chief financial officer as the Japan-based bank makes a further push to transform into a global player.

The move announced on Monday makes Mr Bhattal, who earlier became the first foreigner to join the bank’s executive management board, its third most senior executive, behind Kenichi Watanabe, chief executive, and Takumi Shibata, chief operating officer.

The promotion of Junko Nakagawa, deputy CFO, to the top finance job is unusual for a large Japanese company. Picking the 45-year-old was aimed at highlighting the bank’s commitment to promoting staff on the basis of ability rather than seniority as well as to diversity, according to a person familiar with the selection process.
